
Classic Literature
A classic exhibits high quality writing as it conveys a story of enduring relevance
This individualized class is designed primarily for 6h-9th grade students.
Each month, students will read a classic and then answer study questions, some of which are based on the book content and others which will require (guided) research. Each month also includes a study of a specific element of literature, including plot, character, setting, and more.
Students must be prepared to write short answers as well as short essay (3-5 paragraph). Students will be asked to complete a book-related project, post it to the class stream, and to courteously comment on the other students’ projects.
Books include: The Hobbit, Treasure Island, A Christmas Carol, A Wrinkle in Time, Little Men OR Little Women (choice), Alice in Wonderland OR The Phantom Tollbooth (choice). Additionally, students will choose 2 more books from the following list: A Secret Garden, Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl, Beowulf, Call of the Wild, Heidi, Ivanhoe, Jane Eyre, King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, Pride and Prejudice, The Giver, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Tom Sawyer.

This class will be conducted via Google Classroom from August to May. Semester options are available; inquire for more information.
