Poetry

There are three things, after all, that a poem must reach: the eye, the ear, and what we may call the heart or the mind.  It is most important of all to reach the heart of the reader.”

Robert Frost

This class is primarily designed for high school students.   Younger students may be allowed with permission from instructor.

Each monthly class will include instruction in a type of poetry (Epigrams & Limericks, Haiku & Tanka, Ballad/Narratives, Villanelle & Sestina, Sonnets, Concrete/Visual, Free Verse, and others), a poet spotlight, instruction in a poetic topic (Rhyme, Meter, Form, Theme, Mood, etc), reading selections, research, and composition.   Students will comment on each other’s poems and together we will build understanding of the literature of poetry.

This class will be conducted via Google Classroom from August to May. Semester options are available; inquire for more information.
