Oral Tradition Literature: High School
Want to know more about a culture? Read its stories.
This class is designed primarily for high school students (9th – 12th grade).
In this literature class, students will study the common tropes found in folk tales, fables, tall tales, fairy tales, legends, memorates, and myths from around the world. Each student will choose geographic area of the world as his/her special focus for the year.
Students will receive instruction in the types, tropes, and characteristics of oral tradition literature and will study the role it plays in cultures around the world both historically and in the present day. After completing assigned reading and research, each student will answer study questions on the readings and will create a presentation to teach the other students about their individualized regional study. They will then have a couple of days to engage in courteous discussion and feedback on each other’s presentations.
This class will be conducted via Google Classroom from August to May. Semester options are available; inquire for more information.
2024-5 classes begin August 26.
